Choosing Colour Temperature for Your Home

Compare warm white lighting, 2700K and other colour temperatures, and see how we select fittings to complement your rooms and finishes.

The same room can feel very different under different white light. A timber floor may look warm and rich, a pale stone surface crisp and calm. Choosing colour temperature is about finding the light that suits the materials, the activity and the atmosphere you enjoy.

What does the Kelvin number mean?

Colour temperature describes the appearance of white light, measured in Kelvin. Lower numbers look warmer and more amber; higher numbers look cooler. It is separate from brightness, beam angle and how faithfully a fitting reveals colours.

Around 2700K is a familiar warm-white starting point for living rooms and bedrooms. Around 3000K gives a slightly crisper appearance that can work well in kitchens and contemporary interiors. Cooler whites can suit particular tasks. We compare options in the room rather than applying one number to every home.

Try it against the finishes

A sample fitting tells you more than a specification alone. We look at the light on stone, timber, fabrics, paint and artwork, then consider how it changes when dimmed. The position of the source and the shape of its beam are just as visible as the colour temperature.

This is especially useful where adjacent spaces are seen together. A kitchen, dining area and sitting room can each have their own lighting character while still feeling connected.

Choosing Orluna fittings

Orluna offers architectural lighting choices for different beam patterns, finishes and applications. We select the light source and driver for the intended result, including colour quality and the dimming behaviour wanted in each room.

For an evening scene, a small pool of light on a table and softly lit walls often feel more inviting than every downlight running at the same level. With Lutron controls, those settings can be recalled at a keypad.
