Lighting and connected-home systems at Alwyne Place

The Canonbury project brought Lutron HomeWorks QS and Orluna lighting together with Savant control, KNX heating and Ruckus Wi-Fi. The photograph shows the completed residence; the project delivery credit remains with GLO Audio Visual.

The brief

Coordinate lighting, smart-home control, door entry, climate and network services so the technology supported the architecture without creating separate control experiences.

The challenge

The property combined several specialist systems. Lighting loads and fittings, Savant control, KNX heating, door entry and the network each had their own interfaces and programme dependencies.

Design approach

We paired Lutron HomeWorks QS with Orluna fittings for the lighting, while Savant brought music, door entry and climate control into one interface. KNX heating and Ruckus networking supported the wider system.

Electrical and infrastructure

A new-build programme creates the opportunity—and the obligation—to coordinate panel space, power, control wiring, equipment locations, network cabling and access before finishes close those routes.

Installation

The installation brought together the lighting panels and keypads, Savant control, heating integration, door entry and a property-wide Ruckus network.

Programming and commissioning

Programming centred on natural lighting scenes and straightforward control of music, entry and climate throughout the home.

The result

The completed installation combines Lutron HomeWorks QS lighting, Orluna fittings, Savant music and door entry, KNX heating and Ruckus networking. It is a useful reference for coordinating several specialist systems within a new-build programme.
