A room that changes from everyday television viewing to projection cinema.

A dual-purpose Highgate media room with Epson 4K laser projection, a ceiling-concealed acoustically transparent screen, 9.2 Dolby Atmos with Sonance speakers, Savant control, Lutron lighting, Orluna warm-to-dim fittings and Ruckus Wi-Fi.

A media room with concealed cinema capability

The Highgate room combines everyday television with Epson 4K laser projection and a ceiling-concealed screen. Sonance surround audio, Savant control and Lutron lighting support the two room uses. Photograph from the completed GLO Audio Visual project.

The brief

Keep the room suitable for casual television while allowing a more immersive cinema mode without leaving a permanent projection screen visible.

The challenge

Projection, a retractable screen, surround loudspeakers, room lighting and simple control had to work together while preserving the appearance and everyday use of the room.

Design approach

We combined a concealed electronic screen, Epson laser projection, Sonance loudspeakers and Dolby Atmos, bringing everything together through Savant control with Lutron and warm-to-dim Orluna lighting.

Electrical and infrastructure

The room depended on planned screen housing, projector position, speaker locations, cable paths, power, equipment access, lighting circuits and a reliable Ruckus network.

Installation

Projection, screen, audio, lighting, control and network were installed as one complete room system, with the equipment concealed wherever the design allowed.

Programming and commissioning

Savant provides one simple control route for television and cinema modes, coordinating the screen, projection, sound and lighting for each use.

The result

The room was delivered with everyday television and a separate concealed projection arrangement, Sonance 9.2 Dolby Atmos audio, Savant control and Lutron lighting. The project demonstrates how cinema equipment can be coordinated within a room that also serves daily family use.
