Sonos Era 100 and Era 300: the 2023 launch

Sonos introduced Era 100 and Era 300 in March 2023, giving homeowners two different ways to bring music into a room. Era 100 focused on compact everyday listening; Era 300 introduced a distinctive speaker design built around spatial audio.

Era 100: compact stereo sound

Era 100 brought two angled tweeters and a larger woofer into a compact speaker. It offered stereo playback from one unit, making it a useful choice for kitchens, bedrooms and smaller living spaces.

The launch also added Bluetooth and a USB-C connection for an optional Sonos Line-In Adapter. That adapter allows a suitable external audio source to join the system, including a turntable with the appropriate phono stage. Wi-Fi keeps the speaker part of the wider Sonos home.

Era 300: a different approach to spatial audio

Era 300 used six drivers to send sound forwards, sideways and upwards. With supported Dolby Atmos content, that arrangement adds height and a broader sense of space to music playback.

Its shape also makes placement an important part of enjoying it. We plan room positions with space around the speaker, rather than treating it as something to tuck into any spare shelf. In a compatible Sonos home-cinema system, a pair can also provide surround playback.

What the launch meant for a whole-home system

Both models went on sale on 28 March 2023. The choice was less about buying the largest speaker and more about how each room would be used: everyday music, focused listening or a cinema setup connected to the television.
